ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Sunday morning on April 6 a fire broke out at America's Best Value Inn in Grand Forks and no injuries were reported — fire crews arrived at 5:04 a.m. and quickly extinguished the blaze caused by a malfunctioning bathroom fan.  Grand Forks Herald
  • Just before 10 p.m. Monday night, the Grand Forks Fire Department responded to a car fire in a house's garage and quickly put out the blaze, leaving the car a total loss with moderate smoke damage to the home while the residents and their pet were displaced—police and ambulance also assisted as investigators look into the cause.  Knox News Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • Grand Forks man David Lee Cooper, 61, entered an Alford plea Monday, April 7, for a Class A felony theft charge for stealing $116,450 from an elderly woman — he avoided extra jail time — and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service with $100 monthly restitution payments starting May 1.  Grand Forks Herald
  • A Grand Forks man, Reece Ravenhorst, was arrested after video evidence showed him assaulting his girlfriend multiple times—he faces two charges for terrorizing with a dangerous weapon and three domestic violence charges from incidents between October 2023 and February 2024.  Valley News Live
  • A Grand Forks man pleaded guilty by Alford to two counts of Class A felony gross sexual imposition for sexual contact with a 4-year-old girl in 2011 and for a second incident in 2013—his sentencing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. July 28.  Grand Forks Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed a statewide fire emergency order to activate the State Emergency Operations Plan as higher temperatures and low rainfall have worsened drought conditions and raised wildfire risks. The order directs state agencies to stay ready, and resources have been staged in Dickinson and Bismarck after a fire near Menoken burned 1,200 acres.  Knox News Radio
  • Following a unanimous Senate vote last week, the state plans to build a website—mandated by House Bill 1319 and sponsored by Rep. Bernie Satrom—that will show all companies, funds and financial mechanisms in which the Legacy Fund is invested if allowed by law.  Knox News Radio
