North Dakota regulators approved a compromise electricity rate increase for Xcel Energy customers to stop local rate-payers from subsidizing Minnesota renewable energy projects.
Overall rates will climb by 10.37% and residential rates by 12.92%.
In 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services introduced a year-round application process for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program—aimed at easing bottlenecks during cold spells.
Officials say the change will help families receive aid for heating costs more efficiently.

UND is leading a federal initiative to invest nearly $20 million in developing Edge4Care.ai (an AI tool to predict and prevent diabetes complications) for older adults.
The project partners include SafetySpect Inc., ComDel Innovation and Edgewood Healthcare, aiming to improve chronic disease management and reduce costly emergency care.
Williams County in northwest reported North Dakota’s first measles case in 2026, the Department of Health said.
The unvaccinated individual, aged 20+, caught the disease out of state, and no known exposure sites exist.
