ECONOMY NEWS

  • Starting April 1, Xcel Energy will raise natural gas bills for more than 66,000 customers by about $8.41 per month, and if the commission approves further increases at a hearing later this year, bills could rise more; the company may issue a one-time credit + interest if final rates drop.  Valley News Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four UND nursing students were elected as leaders in the North Dakota Nursing Students’ Association to rebuild a chapter that nearly closed from low participation, giving peers a statewide voice in national nursing conversations.  Knox News Radio
  • The Grand Forks School District will not cut certified staff for now, preserving experienced teachers as it reviews alternative options. Future reductions, if any, could affect classified employees, according to Associate Superintendent Catherine Gillach.  Knox News Radio

  • The City of Grand Forks began sifting through qualified companies to find a new scoreboard provider for the Alerus Center, with City Administrator Todd Feland noting that only firms matching the detailed plans may bid.  Knox News Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • UND track and field was ranked in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll Tuesday, with women placed third and men tied for fourth. Four athletes—including Fanucchi and Keeler—were named Athletes to Watch, and the team will compete in outdoor meets in California on April 3 and 4.  Knox News Radio
  • UND women’s tennis players Ethel Li and Jule Schulte earned conference honors after their home match against Kansas City on Friday, March 20 — Li picked up the Singles Peak Performer of the Week award while the duo secured the Doubles Peak Team of the Week to boost the Fighting Hawks’ record.  Knox News Radio
  • North Dakota, the No. 2 seed, will face Merrimack in the tournament semifinal on Thursday at 7:32 p.m. at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in South Dakota (their only meetings were in 2009) and UND now holds a 2-0 series lead (with both wins occurring then).  Knox News Radio
