- ➤ Representatives from the Grand Forks Education Association met with school board members on Tuesday evening to start negotiations for a new two-year teacher contract. The union proposed a roughly $2,500 annual salary increase while district negotiators suggested changing the teacher definition to exclude some staff—negotiations will continue weekly through May. - ➤ North Dakota state Senators passed House Bill 1361, setting mandatory minimum sentences for human trafficking crimes — AA felonies require at least 20 years, A felonies 10 years, and B felonies five years without parole. - ➤ The ND Senate passed a human trafficking sentencing bill that raises penalties for offenders. Valley News Live
- ➤ A bill to end daylight saving time in North Dakota remains under review after Rep. Roger Maki proposed an amendment at a Senate committee hearing last week—he said the change would only take effect if neighboring states follow suit—aimed at easing the burden on residents in the western part of the Central Time Zone. - ➤ Judge John Thelen, who has served in the Northeast Central Judicial District for nearly 10 years, will retire in August after more than 40 years practicing law.
