CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 32-year-old Terry Wilson on Sunday after he allegedly attacked an employee at Hugo’s Family Marketplace on Demers Ave—he now faces charges including disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call, obstructing a peace officer, criminal trespass, aggravated assault and menacing.  Valley News Live
  • Five people—Alonso Meija, Candice Valdez, Justin Morin, Allison Moran and Vicki Sherven—have been indicted on charges of conspiracy to distribute drugs after traveling between Arizona, Colorado and North Dakota to pick up and transport controlled substances including methamphetamine, opiate pills and fentanyl tablets in communities across North Dakota, and their jury trial will begin May 6.  Valley News Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the North Dakota House passed a bill by a 64 to 29 vote that sets the rules for charter schools to be open to all and to offer no religious curriculum. The measure now heads to the Senate for an amendment vote as Governor Kelly Armstrong supports the bill and proposes increased funding, which would make North Dakota the 47th state to allow charter schools.  Valley News Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Dakotans kept changing their clocks twice a year as the Senate defeated a bill for permanent daylight saving time—32 to 15.  Valley News Live
  • North Dakota lawmakers passed two bills that require schools to keep cell phones stowed away and on silent during class — one bill also covers private schools and says rules must be clearly shared with students and parents. Lawmakers will set up a committee to finish a final bill, and exemptions may be allowed for health needs or individual learning plans.  Valley News Live
