Good morning, Grand Forks. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 11th of April.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Forks Street Department will reduce lanes to one in each direction on North Washington Street between DeMers Avenue and Second Avenue North starting April 14 to let crews rehabilitate the rail bridge carrying the BNSF tracks—closures will last until the end of July weather permitting.  Grand Forks Herald
  • The Grand Forks Police Department will enforce seatbelt use during a Click it or Ticket campaign — running from May 1st to June 1st — that is funded by the North Dakota Department of Transportation.  Knox News Radio
  • ND DOT staff said about 66% of residents have already received their Real IDs ahead of the May 7 air travel deadline (the process remains busy as most transactions are for obtaining or renewing the ID), and officials advised residents to check for the star on the right-hand side of their current ID to decide if an update is needed. The state is performing better than the national average, although many people continue to rush to complete their applications.  Valley News Live
  • State Sen. Janne Myrdal voted against House Bill 1596 to reduce penalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana and the Senate rejected the measure with a 33—13 vote. The bill would have lowered minor possession penalties to a citation with a $150 fine but retained severe penalties for larger amounts.  Knox News Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Allergy season has begun and many people may experience symptoms as higher pollen levels and Canadian wildfire smoke affect the area—Sanford Health notes that the severity depends on weather and local conditions. Doctors added that allergies typically do not cause fever, so those with severe reactions should seek emergency care if over-the-counter medicine is not enough.  Valley News Live
