  • 101-year-old World War II veteran Herman Kulla lives at the North Dakota Veterans Home and served in a machine gun platoon during the Battle of Iwo Jima and in Guam. He ran a bar for 45 years and drove nearly every day to visit his wife until her passing in April 2024—his life reflects decades of service and hard work.  Valley News Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins will visit Fargo on April 22 to meet with agriculture producers and attend technology demonstrations at Grand Farm and North Dakota State University — her visit aims to gather feedback to help improve the farm bill.  Valley News Live
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed two bills that change rules for political ads in North Dakota. House Bill 1167, sponsored by Rep. Jonathan Warrey, requires a capitalized notice on political ads using artificial intelligence tools—Rep. Austen Schauer said the change sets clear limits on AI in politics.  Knox News Radio
  • Former Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford was named interim chancellor of the North Dakota University System by the State Board of Higher Education—he will take office on April 30 and succeed Mark Hagerott who retired early. Sanford has led Bismarck State College as interim president since January and said he is ready to work with the state's campuses on workforce challenges.  Knox News Radio
  • The City of East Grand Forks submitted an application for two special deer hunts this fall so that the Minnesota DNR can include them in state deer hunting materials. The hunts (one accessible hunt on October 9 to 11 with four tags and one standard archery hunt on November 15 to 23 with 12 tags) will be held later this year.  Knox News Radio
