COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Veterans from North Dakota and Minnesota took flight from Fargo to Washington, D.C. Sunday and visited the World War II Memorial and National Museum of the U.S. Army—today they will head to the Vietnam Wall, Korean War Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery as the community prepares to welcome them home on Tuesday at the FARGODOME.  Valley News Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Legislature passed a historic property tax bill that raises the primary residence credit to $1,600—more than triple the old amount—just before the session ended. Lawmakers acted on voter feedback from a failed ballot measure and Rep. Craig Headland criticized a legislator who threatened a petition over the new plan.  Knox News Radio
  • North Dakota lawmakers approved a $20.3 billion state budget for 2025–27 that funds a new State Hospital, eases jail overcrowding and offers property tax relief without raising taxes. The budget, a 3.5% increase over the previous cycle, also includes investments to boost oil production and diversify the economy as lawmakers remain cautious amid lower oil prices and uncertain tariffs.  Knox News Radio
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed a historic property tax relief and reform package today to ease tax burdens for homeowners — the measure boosts the primary residence credit from $500 to $1,600 and is funded by earnings from the Legacy Fund — with the bill passing 86-4 in the House and 46-0 in the Senate.  Knox News Radio
  • The state Senate failed to pass House Bill 1377—a campaign finance reform aimed at increasing spending transparency and streamlining candidate disclosures that would have taken effect with the launch of the new system. Sen. Kristin Roers said the vote marked a lost chance to improve campaign finance reporting.  Knox News Radio
  • North Dakota lawmakers set funding for Prairie Public Broadcasting at $400,000 for tower improvements after previously threatening to cut its support completely. Gov. Kelly Armstrong’s $2.9 million proposal was pared down+lawmakers restored minimal backing to keep the station operational.  Knox News Radio
