- ➤ Local veterans on the Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN received hundreds of letters from family, friends, and community members—Ray Neuhalfen and Ron Huesman shared how the messages warmed their hearts. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Multiple vehicles crashed on I-29 near Grand Forks this afternoon and the highway is closed as Thompson Police, the local sheriff’s office and ND Highway Patrol rerouted traffic. Valley News Live
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Grand Forks police charged two teens—Mason Allery, 16, and Walker Poitra, 18—with 5 counts of attempted murder and 5 counts of reckless endangerment, plus charges for terrorizing, criminal mischief and unlawful handgun possession after a January 3 shooting near a hotel that left two people injured when Poitra fired rounds into a vehicle. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kelly Armstrong signed a bill on Monday that raises the interstate speed limit to 80 mph starting Aug. 1 and increases fines for speeding. The new law calculates fines based on the miles a driver exceeds the limit with added penalties for more than 16 mph over or speeding in construction zones—bringing traffic rules in line with neighboring South Dakota and Montana. - ➤ North Dakota lawmakers approved a $20.3 billion state budget for 2025-27 today—this funding includes a historic property tax package, a new state hospital, and money to reduce jail overcrowding. The budget increases the overall cycle by 3.5% without raising taxes or borrowing funds while aiming to boost oil production and diversify the economy. Knox News Radio

- ➤ A Fargo family at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks battled a rare complication—HELLP Syndrome—that forced the mother to go to the doctor with severe symptoms and have her baby girl delivered at 27 weeks in mid-April. - ➤ The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the state's first measles case since 2011 in a Williams County child who was not vaccinated and who likely caught the disease from an out-of-state visitor.
