Good morning, Grand Forks. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 13th of May.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Grand Forks Fire Department said no residents were displaced after a cooking fire in a home on the 1700 block of 9th Ave N—residents had already doused the flames with a garden hose, and all occupants and pets were safe while fire crews noted kitchen damage and minor smoke damage on the main floor and urged everyone to never leave cooking unattended.  Valley News Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers passed a tax credit that lets businesses offer up to $1,000 per employee in child care subsidies and claim a 50% tax write off—aimed at easing costs for working families. Chamber members supported the measure while critics warned it may leave many families without enough help.  Knox News Radio
  • Fire marshals in Moorhead and Fargo warned that dry, windy conditions have led to Red Flag warnings in nearly all Minnesota counties and half of North Dakota, and they urged residents to avoid open burning and to dispose of cigarette butts safely. Crews fought multiple fires over the weekend — two in Moorhead, four in Fargo, and a 750-acre blaze near Brimson — as officials stressed that careful actions can help prevent further ignitions.  Valley News Live
