CRIME NEWS

  • A Warroad man was arrested after fleeing police in his Dodge Ram Truck on Demers Ave. just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday night when officers blocked his path at the intersection of Demers Ave. and South 20 St.—no injuries were reported.  Valley News Live
  • Surveillance video captured an alleged donation theft outside St. Joe’s Thrift Store in Grand Forks at 12:45 a.m. Monday — managers now ask donors to drop off items only during store hours.  Valley News Live

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Greenpeace is asking a North Dakota judge to lower a nearly $667 million award from a Morton County jury that found the group liable for damages linked to protests over the pipeline in 2016 and 2017 — the group says the amount is excessive and aims to silence environmental activism.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong announced that DMF Executive Director Pat Traynor will serve as interim commissioner of Health and Human Services starting June 2 — he is taking a one-year civil service leave from DMF to manage the agency’s $5.7 billion budget and nearly 2,500 employees — as a member of his Cabinet.  Knox News Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sanford Health is promoting stroke awareness month with events and outreach programs so residents can learn stroke signs and get treatment quickly—officials say early action saves lives.  Valley News Live
  • U.S. Rep. Julie Fedorchak said Medicaid reforms—requiring non-disabled people aged 19 to 64 to work 20 hours per week—will help keep the program solvent for people with disabilities, pregnant women, and elderly citizens while exempting vulnerable groups. Advocates worry that the new rules will add more paperwork that might cause over 10 million people to lose benefits and force state officials to ask for extra funding and staff.  Valley News Live

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, Red River beat Fargo Davies 3-2 to clinch the Eastern Dakota Conference regular season championship, while Central earned a 2-0 shutout over Fargo North to secure a four-seed in the state tournament + they had drawn with Red River earlier this season. The Knights will face the Roughriders Tuesday to finish the regular season.  Knox News Radio
