- ➤ Derek Fuglem was sentenced on May 19 to 4 years in prison and 3 years of probation with a $637 fine after pleading guilty to nine charges from fleeing police in Grand Forks last September—five other charges were dismissed. Valley News Live
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three students from the area will compete in the 100th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. starting Tuesday, May 27—an 8th grader from East Grand Forks has competed before, tying for 60th in 2024, and the finals will be held on Thursday, May 29. Valley News Live
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Cindy Schreiber-Beck of Wahpeton passed away on May 19; she supported farms, schools, aviation, research and innovation since her election in 2014. Flags will be flown at half-staff on the day of her interment on May 28 — her funeral service will be held at the Fargo Air Museum. Valley News Live
