COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A peregrine falcon nestling banding event will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 at the UND water tower—climbers will scale the tower to lower the chicks for banding and the event is open to the public.  Knox News Radio

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At about 1:43 a.m. on June 7, the Grand Forks Fire Department responded to a multi-family residence at 812 4th Avenue South where heavy smoke was seen on the second and third floors during an evacuation — crews extinguished the fire, which caused significant damage to the affected unit, displaced an occupant now assisted by the American Red Cross and Housing Authority, and led to three persons being evaluated while the cause remains under investigation.  Knox News Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday evening, Grand Forks Police received multiple calls after a motor vehicle was driven recklessly near 2200 8th Avenue North and crashed into a fence at 2324 8th Avenue North, and after the suspect fled on foot, officers located and arrested 18-year-old Joshua Ostlund in East Grand Forks on charges of Felonious Restraint, Felony Theft, Reckless Endangerment & additional misdemeanors with no ongoing threat to the public.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Dakota legislative legal staff said on May 22 that Gov. Kelly Armstrong must call a special session to fix an error in his line-item veto that crossed out $35 million meant for a state housing development fund—legal precedent supports the marked-up bill as the official veto document. Attorney General Drew Wrigley said the Legislative Council does not decide how the governor executes his veto.  Knox News Radio
