ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 11 at 8:30 p.m., a fatal crash between a cement truck and a semi carrying potatoes occurred at the intersection of Highway 18—Cass County Road 26 in Cass County, leaving the 34-year-old truck driver dead and a 78-year-old semi driver with non-life threatening injuries.  Valley News Live

  • Italian Moon Pizza and Mexican Food on Washington Street will close after 60 years in business+its final service days are June 18, 19 and 20. The restaurant started in February 1965 by Keith Moon and changed ownership in the 1970s and in 2015+its owners said the decision was not made lightly.  Knox News Radio
  • Italian Moon, a well-loved restaurant that opened in February 1965 (on South Washington St.), announced it will close after 60 years with its final service scheduled for June 18-20 and is raising funds for a longtime employee who died of cancer.  Valley News Live

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m., a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper stopped a southbound vehicle on Interstate 29 in Grand Forks County for illegal window tint and after finding a device believed to be explosive that was safely detonated and temporarily closed I-29 between Thompson and Reynolds Exits, arrested 41-year-old Gabriel Messmer for lacking liability insurance and 42-year-old Christopher Knowles for possessing the device—leading to an ongoing investigation.  Knox News Radio
  • A Grand Forks man named Samuel Gates was arrested after police responded to a domestic incident at his apartment where he held his girlfriend down and pressed a large blade against her body; he faces charges for terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, felonious restraint and domestic violence.  Knox News Radio
  • Grand Forks police arrested Hector Sanabria-Gomez after a money dispute led him to swing a box cutter at a man’s neck outside a building—a victim who denies the theft fled inside to report the threat.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Drew Wrigley said Gov. Kelly Armstrong’s veto was sound—despite a staff error that removed $35 million for housing programs—and confirmed the funding will move forward unless challenged in court or the Legislature reconvenes. He dismissed calls for a special session to fix the mistake.  Knox News Radio
