COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CHS Dakota Plains Ag donated $59,553 to the Great Plains Food Bank as part of its 15th annual Harvest for Hunger campaign, with local CHS employees, farmers and community members raising funds through raffles, silent auctions and grain donations to fight hunger. The donation pushed the campaign’s lifetime giving to $1.2 million—supporting efforts to provide meals to people facing food insecurity.  Valley News Live
  • Based on data showing gas grills caused over 9,000 home fires each year from 2019 to 2023, local safety officials urge Grand Forks residents to keep grills three to five feet from buildings—regular cleaning and hose checks help prevent leaks and fires during summer barbecues.  Valley News Live

CRIME NEWS

  • A Grand Forks man named Nicholas Narveson, 27, was found guilty of murder for shooting 53-year-old James Jorgenson at a downtown bar on July 4, 2024—his sentencing hearing is set for August 1 while he remains without bond at the county correctional center.  Knox News Radio
  • Kevin Anderson, 57 (from Fort Ransom), reportedly failed to signal and brake checked vehicles on I-29 on June 18, causing a chain reaction that led Troopers to deploy spike strips and use physical force to arrest him, and he faces charges including fleeing a peace officer, reckless endangerment, preventing arrest, and reckless driving.  Valley News Live

  • Multiple tornadoes touched down across the Red River Valley on June 20—prompting emergency crews to inspect damage and urging residents to seek shelter.  Valley News Live

  • Thompson and Park River, the tournament's top seeds, played a close Class B baseball game Thursday night with Thompson winning by a score of 3 to 1 after fielding errors allowed crucial runs. Brayden Wolfgram recorded six strikeouts over seven innings to help secure the victory for Thompson.  Knox News Radio
