At around 8:30 Tuesday evening, the Grand Forks Fire Department responded to the Riverside Dam boat ramp for a paraglider that crashed into the river, launched a rescue boat & helped the uninjured operator reach shore while East Grand Forks Fire Department & police and ambulance crews supported the response.
Grand Forks Border Patrol agents arrested six undocumented persons during a traffic stop on July 8th — the six individuals are now in removal proceedings with help from local law enforcement, ICE and Enforcement and Removal Operations.
An appeals court today declined to reconsider its decision that ruled the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Spirit Lake Nation and three tribal citizens did not have standing to file a voting discrimination suit against the state, a ruling that may affect the state legislature makeup. The plaintiffs, who won a district court order in 2023 for a new voting map addressing claims that the 2021 redistricting diluted Native voting power, may still file a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court.
Governor Armstrong announced today a new program—Grain Storage and Facility Rebuilder Program—to help farmers and ranchers rebuild agricultural buildings damaged by severe storms.
The program offers two options—temporary storage loans for this season and financing for repairs or new buildings—with up to $150,000 per producer from about $37 million in total funds.
Officials confirmed that West Nile virus was found in a pool of mosquitoes in Grand Forks and urged residents to use insect repellent and wear long-sleeve shirts to reduce the risk+ no human cases have been reported.
