Good morning, Grand Forks.
🎭 Culture
Downtown Development Association and Visit Greater Grand Forks have partnered to launch Talking Trail— a free self-guided tour that uses an app or dial-in number to share narrated stories about landmarks such as Sorlie Bridge and City Hall— offering residents and visitors a new way to explore our city's history and culture.
🎓 Education
North Dakota State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler celebrated four educators including Grand Forks first-grade teacher Emily Dawes as finalists for North Dakota Teacher of the Year award — the finalists were selected from 48 county honorees.
Baesler will visit the finalists' schools when the new school year begins — these visits will honor their contributions.
🏛️ Government
Governor Kelly Armstrong joined a groundbreaking ceremony at the Heritage Center and State Museum to begin construction on a Military Gallery that honors North Dakota service members—he thanked the Legislature for approving key funding including $15 million from the Strategic Investment and Improvements Fund and matching nearly $39 million in private contributions.
North Dakota lawmakers said they will not take the governor to court over a veto error that removed $35 million in housing funds after a staff mistake crossed out extra amounts in May.
The Attorney General’s Office said the governor’s memo clearly showed he intended to veto only $150,000 set aside for a Native American homelessness liaison.
