COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Northlands Rescue Mission food pantry in Grand Forks will temporarily close on August 8 due to nearly empty shelves caused by funding cuts and supply chain issues. The Mission will continue serving hot meals and stockpiling supplies—while families temporarily lose access to their monthly food boxes—until the pantry reopens.  Knox News Radio
  • Northlands Rescue Mission said its food pantry—which serves 400-700 families each month—will temporarily close on August 8 due to nearly empty shelves from funding cuts and supply chain disruptions. The organization urged local residents to donate nonperishable food and money—most needed items are rice, pasta, and canned goods—to help stockpile supplies and reopen the pantry.  Valley News Live

CRIME NEWS

  • Nicholas Narveson was sentenced yesterday to 60 years in jail for the Independence Day 2024 shooting at a Grand Forks bar—he received credit for 390 days served, had 20 years suspended, and was found guilty after killing James Jorgenson.  Valley News Live

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota Mill in Grand Forks reported record profits for fiscal year 2025 at more than $26 million, up 28 percent from last year's $20.7 million. More than half of the profit went to the state general fund, and the Industrial Commission—composed of Governor Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring—oversaw the mill's operations.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Legislature is adding 25 staff for a nonpartisan research division as it begins recruiting four policy analysts—over 50 people applied, and the new hires may join as soon as September to help improve program oversight.  Knox News Radio
  • Following House Bill 1079, the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services renamed two divisions—its Homeland Security division is now the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and State Radio is now the State Emergency Communications Center. The changes reflect updated communications technology.  Knox News Radio
  • South 20th Street in Grand Forks will be closed just south of the 11th Avenue South intersection starting on Monday, August 4th for crews to install a storm water line under the road — detour signs will be posted and the closure is projected to last 3 weeks weather permitting.  Knox News Radio
