A benefit has been set up for Nick Chine’s family to help cover funeral services after the beloved Royals baseball coach passed away Friday.
Donations can be made online as the community comes together to support his family.
💼 Business
Two businesses in Columbia Mall are relocating: Maurice’s will move this fall near HomeGoods (per its Facebook post) while West African Cuisine has shifted to the Midtown District (replacing Melissa’s Cocina).
Only 17 businesses remain at the mall, reflecting a notable drop in value, Feland said.
🏛️ Government
The city will bid on Phase one of the Downtown Gateway and Greenway rehabilitation project this fall to add playgrounds, walking paths, a pickleball court - and a bridge for pedestrians; a $3.5 million federal grant backs this roughly $7 million plan with construction set for 2027 or 2028.
Gov. Armstrong will ban all kratom sales, use, and possession statewide at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.
5 as he declared a public health emergency and has called the Legislature to hold a special session on Sept. 2 to put the ban into law.
