- ➤ The Downtown Street Fair is held this weekend in Grand Forks with over 100 vendors, food trucks, and kid activities provided by the Public Library and Children’s Museum — the event will run Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. while the Farmers’ Market remains open at Town Square on Saturday. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Grand Forks Police arrested Rene Saenz Jr. today for aggravated assault and resisting arrest after he allegedly slapped and punched his girlfriend during a dispute at her home—officers needed to use force to detain him. Valley News Live
- ➤ Grand Forks police arrested Jasper Torres on terrorizing charges after he allegedly threatened at 7:45 a.m. on August 18 to shoot up and burn down an apartment building near the Public Library—he later said his words were song lyrics and that he had slept outside. Valley News Live
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of North Dakota received nearly $2 million in funding for the National Science Foundation Research Traineeship Program to assess land and water resources and develop strategies for sustainable use. The program will work with stakeholders to protect these natural resources. Knox News Radio
