CRIME NEWS

  • Grand Forks Police arrested Jasper Torres after a call reported he threatened to shoot up and burn down an apartment building, and they later found him sitting on a bench at the public library—he now faces one count of terrorizing.  Knox News Radio
  • Border Patrol agents arrested Jose Cadena-Velasquez in Fargo after a citizen tipped officials that he was present illegally and used fraudulent documents to gain employment at Wild Bill’s Saloon — he resisted commands during a traffic stop and was taken to the Grand Forks Border Patrol Sector Headquarters — according to court documents.  Valley News Live

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Thursday, the North Dakota Industrial Commission awarded WBI Energy a $500 million financial guarantee to build a natural gas pipeline—called Bakken East—that will deliver up to 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day to eastern communities, with Gov. Kelly Armstrong noting the project will offer a more secure power supply by moving excess gas from the Bakken. The pipeline project will support eastern areas by creating a stable energy source for growth.  Knox News Radio
  • Union leaders say clean energy jobs in wind and solar projects are growing fast — the sector shows a union coverage rate just above 10% compared to 7% in conventional work — and they urge North Dakota developers to improve union hiring practices.  Knox News Radio

  • College students in our region are getting ready to move into campus housing for the 2025-26 school year, and families are advised to arrive early and follow school-provided driving directions—NDSU's Director of Residence Life Rian Nostrum stressed that new students should get involved on campus to settle in quickly.  Valley News Live
  • The chair of the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education said he will propose making interim chancellor Brent Sanford permanent while noting that a nationwide search would cost over $100,000. Sanford, a former lieutenant governor — who has led the system since April — replaced Mark Hagerott when he left at the end of April.  Knox News Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • On the first night of Class A football, Langdon Area-Munich is ranked second in the poll from the North Dakota Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association with three of 16 first-place votes behind defending champion Velva-Drake-Anamoose/Garrison—Thompson and teams like Dickinson Trinity, Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm, and Minot Ryan/Our Redeemers also earned votes—and in a separate 9-man poll North Border is ranked third behind LaMoure/Litchville-Marion.  Knox News Radio
  • Red River’s soccer team was held scoreless when Fargo Davies beat them 2–0 at Cushman Field on Thursday—Melad Hematzada scored early and added a late goal, which dropped the team’s record to 1—2—1. They will face Central in the Cushman Cup series on Tuesday.  Knox News Radio
