CRIME NEWS

  • ➤ Grand Forks Police arrested Rene Saenz Jr. for aggravated assault and resisting arrest after a dispute with his alleged girlfriend, with reports stating he beat her during the incident—he admitted to slapping her twice.  Knox News Radio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • ➤ The average gasoline price in Grand Forks ranged from $2.65 to $2.75 per gallon, while the statewide price remained at $2.85 from nearly 500 stations reported by Gas Buddy dot Com. That price was three cents lower than a month ago and 35 cents lower than a year ago as the national average climbed to $3.12.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ➤ Attorney General Drew Wrigley and 44 other AGs signed a letter on August 25 urging 13 companies that use AI to improve child protection after concerns over Meta’s systems engaging in inappropriate behavior with minors—co-sponsors include AGs from Tennessee, Illinois, North Carolina and South Carolina. The letter warns that companies will be held accountable if harmful content reaches children.  Valley News Live
  • ➤ The City of Grand Forks signed a development agreement with Agristo— a European company —to build a new potato processing facility that will create 300 to 350 jobs and offer a local market for high-value crops, with state funding playing a key role in securing the project.  Valley News Live

  • ➤ Many students returning to school struggle to stay awake so Sanford Health advises turning off cell phones and avoiding big meals before bed—Dr. Arveity Setty says using the bed only for sleep and keeping a steady schedule will help improve rest.  Valley News Live
  • ➤ Grand Forks BioLife permanently closed Monday, August 25th and officials thanked the community for its support in donating plasma. They advised donors to visit centers in Fargo-West Fargo and Moorhead for future donations.  Valley News Live

  • ➤ UND football coach Eric Schmidt named sophomore Jerry Kaminski as the starting quarterback for the 2025 season after a wide-open competition during fall camp—Kaminski played in three games last season and will lead the team when they face Kansas State on August 30 at 6 p.m.  Valley News Live
