Wahpeton FedEx Freight driver David Comings became the first North Dakota driver crowned Grand Champion at the American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driving Championship held in Minneapolis.

He outscored 424 competitors and earned the Bendix Grand Champion Award while driving daily loads between Fargo and Belfield—logging over 3.1 million accident‐free miles in 28.5 years.

On August 25, the Grand Forks Police Department conducted alcohol compliance checks—23 businesses were inspected as local youths, under police supervision, attempted to buy alcohol and Denny's Tavern failed the test.
