  • Local leaders and residents gathered at Rendezvous Park on August 28 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the park’s reopening after renovations — officials noted the event signaled a fresh start for the community.  Valley News Live

  • A man was arrested in Grand Forks after he allegedly assaulted a victim and stole a cell phone on August 28 — officers responded to a disturbance near 6th Avenue and 3rd Street North.  Valley News Live

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cool weather at planting limited North Dakota’s soybean crop to an expected yield of 36 bushels per acre—below the national projection of 53.6—as Milo Braaten of the Soybean Council explained that delayed planting reduced yield potential during a trade delegation with China.  Knox News Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Dakota State University has been awarded nearly $4 million by the National Science Foundation to add a new supercomputer named Bison—this system is expected to boost AI research for over 60 groups in areas like agriculture and energy, and it will be housed in the CCAST datacenter.  Valley News Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, Labor Day, the Grand Forks Police Department will join Distracted Driving Awareness Month by checking drivers using cell phones while driving—violations carry a $200 fine. Extra officers will be assigned through grants from the North Dakota Department of Transportation to help make roads safer.  Knox News Radio
  • The City of Grand Forks announced that Charles Marcott is set to become the new Deputy Fire Chief pending city council approval on September 2. He will take over leadership of the Fire Department on September 3 (26 years of firefighting experience).  Valley News Live
  • The North Dakota State Investment Board selected Funston Advisory Services LLC to conduct its first review of the board's governance model. Gov. Kelly Armstrong said the review will assess compliance, board culture, and risk oversight — key factors that will help improve clarity and efficiency as the board’s investment program grows.  Knox News Radio
  • The City of Grand Forks named Deputy Fire Chief Charles Marcott as the new fire chief, pending City Council approval on September 2nd. He will take over leadership on September 3rd — he previously managed the Public Safety Answering Point.  Knox News Radio
