  • The Grand Forks Sertoma Club gave its Jay Seeger Service to Mankind Award to Brad Sherwood this week. The award recognizes Sherwood’s lifelong dedication to education and the arts — he graduated from UND in 1984 and has significantly impacted the local community.  Knox News Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Armada announced a new partnership with drone maker Skydio during the two-day UAS Summit and Expo at the Alerus Center on October 14th and 15th. CEO Dan Wright said the mobile AI data centers—able to be set up in days—will process drone data in real time while boosting jobs and lowering taxes in the state.  Valley News Live

CULTURE NEWS

  • UND Theatre opened its 2025-26 season in late September with pop-up previews and community partner programs that invite Greater Grand Forks residents to enjoy live shows — the season is themed 'Our Community. Our Voices' to reflect President Andy Armacost's focus on community.  Knox News Radio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota is awarding $4 million to North Dakota Country Fest and $3 million to restore the Urbain Cote Round Barn for a dairy museum as part of a state effort to boost tourism. The grants—part of $15 million in tourism projects—will support improvements for the fest scheduled for July 8-11 and the agritourism site planned near Dunseith.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Forks will begin vacuum leaf collection the week of October 20th with crews making two complete passes through the city if weather permits — residents should pile leaves on the berm within 3 ft of the curb and remove plastic bags before taking them to a yard waste drop site.  Knox News Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread warned that without renewed tax credits, health insurance costs will rise steeply in 2026—affecting about 30,000 people and increasing premiums by $378 to $3,735 based on income.  Valley News Live
  • A committee of North Dakota lawmakers will soon decide whether to endorse four bill drafts that could help the state secure more federal funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program — a grant aimed at boosting rural behavioral health, workforce, infrastructure and disease prevention. The state must submit a detailed plan for its funding use by Nov. 5.  Knox News Radio
  • Veterans facing criminal charges can join Veterans Treatment Court if they plead guilty to nonviolent offenses and commit to at least one year in the program. Mentors who also served guide veterans—helping them access counseling and health services to get sober.  Valley News Live

  • The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks signed infielder Tucupita Marcano for their 2026 American Association season. Marcano, who was banned from MLB in 2024 after placing over $150K in bets, played 149 games for San Diego and Pittsburgh—adding to his record from international play.  Valley News Live
