  • A former executive director of Northlands Rescue Mission addressed their termination in a public statement + details of the decision remain undisclosed.  Valley News Live
  • Everett Jones, the former executive director of Northlands Rescue Mission, said he does not know why he was dismissed five months after starting—he also dismissed rumors of substance use—and a community meeting to address the leadership changes will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley Christian Church.  Valley News Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UND Aerospace now offers FAA-approved aircraft dispatcher courses after completing a long review process to meet federal standards; the program joins only 52 institutions nationwide + it meets a long-held goal for providing new career paths in aviation.  Knox News Radio
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong has appointed Levi Bachmeier from West Fargo School District as the state superintendent of public instruction; he will take charge after former superintendent Kirsten Baesler becomes a U.S. Department of Education assistant secretary — Bachmeier has served as business manager since 2019 and advised Gov. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Dakota Health and Human Services warned that if the shutdown continues past Oct. 31, SNAP benefits will be paused beginning Nov. 1 for all eligible recipients — affecting thousands of local families — as officials await federal guidance on when benefits may resume.  Valley News Live
  • The City of Grand Forks issued one citation and one written warning under its homeless encampment ordinance this summer—Deputy Chief Brett Johnson said the tool has rarely been needed. City officials and coalition partners are monitoring local trends and note fewer homeless cases during the winter months while working to connect residents with services.  Valley News Live
