- ➤ The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education is debating a proposal that would let state colleges offer bachelor’s degrees in just 90 semester hours—30 fewer than usual. - ➤ North Dakota is using $1.5 million from the Department of Health and Human Services to address food insecurity during the federal shutdown—$915,000 of the funds will go to the Great Plains Food Bank to buy over 450,000 pounds of food for about 24,000 households that will see their SNAP benefits interrupted. - ➤ Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed an executive order declaring an emergency and granting a waiver of hours of service for drivers transporting fertilizer — dry, liquid, and anhydrous inputs — so farmers can receive supplies despite delays from facility maintenance and transportation issues; the order will remain in effect for 14 days while all safety rules continue to apply. - ➤ North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the State Board of Higher Education—this vacancy opened when Levi Bachmeier was appointed as the next state superintendent pending the resignation of current Superintendent Kirsten Baesler. Eligible applicants must have lived in North Dakota for five years and not worked for the state university system in the past two years, with a committee screening candidates before submitting three names to Gov.
