- ➤ A school bus carrying two children was rear‐ended Thursday, April 3 at the intersection of DeMers Avenue and 42nd Street—Grand Forks police reported the incident at 4:17 p.m. with no injuries and said that officers were still on scene as of 4:38 p.m. Grand Forks Herald

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Eddy County man (Kyle Kahalehili Maez-Schaack, 32, of New Rockford) pleaded guilty to five charges including three Class C felonies for reckless endangerment, fleeing a police officer, and criminal mischief causing damage between $2,000 and $10,000 after fleeing from a Grand Forks County deputy in May 2024, and he was sentenced to four years in jail with two years of supervised probation and could face six more years if he breaks probation rules. - ➤ Emily Dawes of Kelly Elementary was named Teacher of the Year for Grand Forks Public Schools at a student assembly on April 2 — her 10 years of teaching, including 4 years in first grade, earned her a $500 check and will move her into consideration for Grand Forks County's Teacher of the Year award. Kelly Armstrong said the application deadline for school, community and church musical groups is extended until April 14 for joining the Governor’s Official State Programs for 2025-2026—groups must include a musical recording, references and materials for review by the Governor and First Lady who will choose two acts based on talent, achievement and community involvement.
