GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Senate unanimously passed a property tax credit bill that cuts the maximum credit to $1,250 — less than the House-approved $1,450 and below the governor’s proposed $1,550. A new skin-in-the-game amendment ties the credit to 75% of a homeowner’s tax liability with a $500 minimum, and Sen. • Sen. Jeff Barta from Grand Forks spent nearly a year working on SB 2398 that sets impact zones and groups to check new development near military bases; the bill passed both legislative chambers and now awaits Gov. Kelly Armstrong's signature. The law was partly inspired by fears over wind farms and a failed Fufeng corn mill project—steps meant to keep military work safe—by creating local review groups for future projects.  Grand Forks Herald
  • Attorney General Drew Wrigley’s prison sentencing bill, Senate Bill 2128, was rejected by the House after more than 90 minutes of debate—lawmakers voted 9—5 in the House Judiciary Committee and turned down an amendment to study parole and state corrections.  Knox News Radio
