  • East Grand Forks Senior High School and Sacred Heart have scheduled graduation ceremonies, while crews closed the Columbia Road Overpass from May 19 until October to replace its deck near Demers Ave—detour signs were posted. The Downtown Development Association sought mural submissions on May 16, a Grand Forks officer arrested a Minnesota man after a traffic chase on May 16, and the KNOX Hometown Bracket Challenge Draft Party began at 4:00 p.m. on May 19.  Knox News Radio

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Grand Forks teen was seriously hurt in a fiery crash just after 6:00 p.m. on May 22 at the intersection of 32nd Ave S. and S. 31st St when his motorcycle hit a pickup truck making a left turn+ both vehicles caught fire while police investigate the incident, noting the 48-year-old pickup driver from Mesa, AZ was not hurt.  Valley News Live

CRIME NEWS

  • A Grand Forks man—43-year-old Stephen Lang—was arrested on drug charges after police stopped him on Interstate-29 near Thompson and found multiple drugs, two firearms and nearly $15,000 in cash, authorities said.  Knox News Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kelly Armstrong said his veto of a $150,000 budget item for a tribal homelessness liaison was a mistake—this action also cut $35 million meant for housing needs. He said he plans to call the legislature back to fix the funding error.  Valley News Live
  • Crews will close North 4th Street from 1st Avenue North to 2nd Avenue North on Tuesday, May 27 for a complete street reconstruction+ city officials note that local residents may experience traffic delays during the project.  Knox News Radio
  • North Dakota State Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler’s nomination to be assistant secretary of elementary and secondary education advanced to full Senate after a 12 to 11 party-line vote by the Senate HELP Committee. She will resign upon confirmation + Gov. Kelly Armstrong will name her successor.  Valley News Live
